Happy Fourth of July!

Well, Augusta got to celebrating the Fourth of July a little early this year. We live near Ft. Gordon, so for most of the last 7 years, we've gone to the celebration on Barton Field. It's a lot of fun with carnival type rides and food and lots of fun freebies. This year, they were giving away light up mini fans and those prismatic glasses that are fun to use while watching the fireworks. It's like looking at them through a kaleidoscope! They have a Jimmy Buffet tribute band and then the Army Band plays patriotic music until it's time for the fireworks. The final song before the fireworks is always the 1812 Overture. There's nothing like the 1812 Overture with Howitzers for emphasis! This year, they held the celebration early, on July 1, so that service members could spend the weekend with their families. The fireworks were a little shorter than usual, but were still fantastic. There's nothing like sitting on the grass watching fireworks and eating funnel cakes! I hope you all have a fantastic Fourth of July and a safe and fun holiday weekend.

Happy Fourth!
