Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom Update

All images: Disney
Disney recently released more information about the new Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom game. The game was recently open for testing and guests who played it said it was fantastic.

The game, where guests become Merlin's apprentice sorcerers, feature quests involving more than 20 Disney villains, from Cruella De Vil to Hades. The sorcerers must stop the villain from stealing one of the four pieces of Merlin's crystal ball. Magic symbols throughout the park lead sorcerers to the villain's hiding place in Adventureland, Fantasyland, Frontierland, or Main Street USA. Once at a Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom location, sorcerers use magic keys to reveal the villain's hideout and spell cards to defeat them.

There are 70 different spell cards that can be used to aid sorcerers in their quests. Each card features a different character with a unique spell. Spells can be used singly or in combination to defeat the villains. The cards are divided into 9 different categories, including Princess, Hero, and Warrior. Symbols on each card refer to rarity: star cards are rare, moon cards are uncommon, and planet cards are common. The cards are collectible and trade-able and guests are given 5 complimentary cards for each game. You can sign up to play once per day. They swipe your ticket to verify that you haven't played that day and then give you the 5 cards. The Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom will premiere in late February. I can't wait!!

Breaking Dawn on Bluray

Target
This is my favorite of the Twilight films so far. The lighting and coloring are so much better than in Twilight and the characters are much more developed, too. Breaking Dawn will be available on February 11th, 2012.

Several stores are planning midnight release parties with special editions of the DVD and Blu-ray. Walmart has created a wedding dress cover for their special edition. Target has one of the flowers from the wedding scene encased for display and numbered with a certificate of authenticity. I do believe I will attend the Target release and yes, I will probably buy the flower edition, even though it is more expensive. I have already submitted my theater ticket photo for the coupon and I hope it will arrive in time. Target will be giving out tickets to purchase the film beginning at 9PM on February 10th. They will be showing a preview of Breaking Dawn, Part 2 at 11PM and the DVD and Bluray will be available for purchase at that time. I haven't been to a midnight release in ages and I'm looking forward to this one.

Brave

Disney/Pixar
They've been playing the trailer for Brave a lot lately and it looks so good! I can't wait to see it this summer.

I'm so excited that they have created a new heroine that wants to prove herself and not rely on men to tell her her destiny. And besides, Princess Merida has red hair and she's Scottish! As a red head of Scottish descent, I love the idea of a heroine that looks like me.

Once Upon a Time

Disney
I really like the fairytale vs. reality show Once Upon a Time. I love the way they reveal more of the background for each of the fairytale characters every week. Caution: Spoilers Ahead!

So far, they've revealed the past of Rumplestiltskin, Hansel and Gretel, Cinderella, Jiminy Cricket, and the Sheriff. All of the characters had rather horrible pasts, so you have to wonder if taking away their "happily ever after" really hurt them. In fact, Rumplestiltskin had much to run from in his fairytale past, Hansel and Gretel had better luck in the real world, and Cinderella was only able to reunite with her lost prince in the real world, too. It was rather sad when Regina killed the Sheriff just as he remembered everything about his past. Other characters, such as Snow White and her Prince, and the Evil Queen have such complicated pasts that a little is revealed every week.

I'm wondering how long they intend for this show to run. While I love the story and the costumes in the fairytale world are fantastic, for the Evil Queen to be defeated and everyone to achieve their "happily ever after" again, there must be a planned end to the story. Hopefully, they'll show Red Riding Hood's past soon, although I think the next episode involves the Enchanted Mirror. If you enjoy fairy tales with a twist, try Once Upon a Time on ABC, Sundays at 8PM EST.
