Pixar's Latest Short "Bao" Is All About Family

Pixar
I love the Pixar shorts that are shown before each new movie, especially the ones about family, like La Luna and Piper. They've all been fantastic little stories, and the latest short sounds absolutely beautiful.

Bao tells the story of a Chinese mother who is saddened by her empty nest.

One day, one of her bao, or dumplings, suddenly comes to life as a little boy. She gets a second chance at motherhood, but quickly realizes that children will always grow up too soon.

Pixar
The story, which was written and directed by Domee Shi, (the first woman to direct a Pixar short) was based in part on her relationship with her mother. Shi chose a dumpling to come alive because they were an important part of her childhood.

"I would make them with my mom as a little girl so I always had a special connection with dumplings and spending time with my mom," Shi said. "We’d make them while watching Chinese dramas together all weekend, or during the holidays and before the New Year."

Shi's mother was very involved in one important part of the short. She came to the Pixar offices to demonstrate how to make dumplings, and the technique and skill that goes into them, which the animators referenced when making the film. Bao will debut with Incredibles 2 on June 15.

Ant-Man and Wasp can be found suited up, or as unmasked chase figures, which will be available in limited quantities. The Ghost figure will have a translucent variant that will be available exclusively at Walmart. Two PocketPOP keychains feature the masked Ant-Man and Wasp. These POPVinyl should arrive in stores in time for the July 6th premiere of the movie.

Quote of the Week

Marvel
There was an idea to bring together a group of remarkable people, to see if we could become something more. So when they needed us, we could fight the battles that they never could.

Thanos Demands Your Silence

I truly can't stand it when someone spoils a movie for me. I'm glad to see that Marvel doesn't like spoilers either.

Marvel
From a letter posted by the Russo brothers to this hilarious PSA by the cast, Marvel is really trying to keep the surprise alive for fans.

Wakanda Revisited Featurette

Marvel
Avengers: Infinity War, which arrives in theaters on Friday, looks more and more amazing with every glimpse Marvel allows us. My only concern is, how many tissues do you think it will take to get through what promises to be an epic battle?

Marvel's 10 Year Legacy Featurette

Marvel
Take a brief look back at where it all began with Marvel's 10-Year Legacy featurette. It's hard to believe that they were worried that Iron Man would flop.

Quote of the Week

Tristar Pictures
I began to realize how important it was to be an enthusiast in life. If you are interested in something, no matter what it is, go at it full speed. Embrace it with both arms, hug it, love it and above all become passionate about it. Lukewarm is no good.

Marvel Thanks Their Fans for 10 Amazing Years

Marvel
"10 years, over 18 movies, there has been one constant, you." Just another example of why I love Marvel: they know that their fans are everything. I wonder what the next 10 years will bring...

I love how detailed Disney makes their parade floats. This Tangled float from the Festival of Fantasy Parade is very much like the Snuggly Duckling.

The Incredibles 2 Trailer is Action Packed

Disney/Pixar
It looks like the world is once again in peril, and it's up to the Incredibles to save the day. This time around, Bob (Mr. Incredible) has to stay home and take care of the kids while Helen (Elastigirl) proves to the world that we need superheroes. I'm not sure which one has the more difficult job, but it looks like it's going to be quite the adventure. Incredibles 2 arrives in theaters on June 15.

Avengers: Infinity War "Chant" TV Spot

Marvel
The latest Avengers: Infinity War TV spot is rather dire, asking, "where will you be when it all ends?" But in typical Marvel fashion, there is a humorous note. I love that Okoye was hoping for the Olympics and a Starbucks. Avengers: Infinity War arrives in theaters on April 27th.

These Thor: Ragnarok Arena Clash Legos are Marvelous

The Thor vs Hulk Arena Clash Legos are definitely my new favorite. I absolutely adore Legos in general, but the Marvel sets are especially awesome. This set includes: Thor (with lightning eyes), the Hulk (in battle armor), Loki (with or without his horns), the Grandmaster, and a Sakaarian guard. There are also several moving parts to help play out the battle: Thor has a jumping base, Loki and the Grandmaster can be unceremoniously dumped from their seats, the gates open to reveal the Hulk, two towers topple to the ground, and one wall bursts apart, while another contains a hidden cache of weapons. In all, it's a great set, perfect for any Marvel or Lego fan.
