31 Days to Be Wicked on Disney Channel

This year's Halloween lineup on the Disney Channel is called 31 Days to Be Wicked, a riff on the song from Descendants 2.

It's an entire month of Disney Halloween favorites, old and new. Several of the Disney Channel Original Halloween movies have already been added to On-Demand, such as Girl vs. Monsters and the Halloweentown series. Which movie is your can't miss?

Tangled Ever After

We absolutely love Tangled at out house, so we were excited to find out that Disney will be releasing a new Tangled short on the Disney Channel next spring. Disney announced the new film at the D-23 Expo. They haven't released too many details about the storyline, but Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi will return as the voices of Rapunzel and Flynn.

Tangled Mosaic

The tile mosaics at the Riviera Resort are absolutely stunning. Made up of over 1 million cut glass tiles, they arch across the qceiling and down the walls of the tunnel that leads to the Skyliner. This mosaic is from Tangled. A second mosaic at the other end is from Peter Pan.

The new Tangled: Before Ever After movie looks really cute. I was wondering why she had long, blonde hair again.

The movie kicks off a new Tangled television series. Both will air on the Disney Channel later this year. 

Tangled Is An Unexpected Delight

Well, Bean decided we had to watch Tangled last night. I'm sure this was due in part to the Tollytots Rapunzel Toddler doll we found at Goodwill yesterday. She still had her dress, very few marks on her skin (all of which washed off), but her hair was terribly Tangled (appropriate, I know.) However, she only cost $2.02, so I couldn't pass her up. I spent over an hour working on her hair, but I finally got it all straightened out. Which was when we discovered the one brunette lock in amongst the blonde. So cute!

I love Disney's version of Rapunzel. I had wanted them to make it for years, but was unsure they ever would. This was one of the darker tales from the brothers Grimm, dealing with more than just magic. The story of Rapunzel had a witch, kidnapping, a prince who was blinded by thorns, twins born out of wedlock, and many years of suffering before Rapunzel and her prince found their happy ending. Scary, right? Disney took the key elements and turned it into a story children could enjoy. This has to be one of the funniest of the Princess tales. There are obvious jokes as well as moments of subtle grownup humor. And I love Flynn Ryder, the non-traditional hero. Bean has seen it so many times that she like to quote large sections of dialogue and knows nearly all of the songs. I love listening to her sing along with the "Mother Knows Best" song. It's hilarious! In all, it's a great Princess movie that we enjoy watching again and again.

Enola Holmes 3 Teaser and Posters

The first teaser trailer for Enola Holmes 3 has arrived and it looks fantastic. Enola is Sherlock Holmes younger sister and, like her brother, she is quite clever at solving crimes. This time around, she's supposed to be marrying Tewkesbury, but Sherlock has been kidnapped and Enola is the only person who can rescue him.

Here's the official synopsis from Netflix:

The critically-acclaimed ‘Enola Holmes’ franchise has returned, taking Enola far from London, where personal and professional dreams collide on a case more tangled and treacherous than any she has faced before. Have you played Disney's new Infinity game? We got it for Christmas, and have only played a few times, but it's a lot of fun. I love how you can play as so many characters. We've spent some time in the Lone Ranger level and really enjoyed it. I will have to spend some time really learning how it all works, but for now, I'm just having fun learning about each of the characters.

There are several different characters available currently, with many more that should be released over the next several months. You can play as:

On April 1, 2014, they will release the set I'm most looking forward to: Phineas Flynn-Fletcher and Agent P from Phineas and Ferb. We are total Phineas and Ferb fans, so we can't wait to see what crazy things they can get up to. Here's a quick look to pique your interest.

The Magic, the Memories, and You!

For the past year, Disney has had a nightly projection show on Cinderella Castle (It's a Small World at Disneyland) featuring classic Disney images as well as PhotoPass photos taken throughout the day. During the Christmas season, they added segments that turned the Castle into a grand gingerbread house, ice palace, and fancy package.

Starting today, they will add new segments featuring some of the most romantic scenes in Disney history. At one point, the Castle will be entirely covered in climbing red roses and stained glass windows that show the stories of Cinderella, Snow White, and (my favorite) Beauty and the Beast. Another segment turns the castle into a beautiful, star-filled sky.

The segment that I most look forward to seeing features the King and Queen from Tangled lifting a lantern into the sky. The lantern is then joined by hundreds of others, and I'm sure it will be just as awe inspiring as it was in the movie. These new segments will run through mid-April. A new summer show will turn the Castle into a giant Sand Castle. Goofy rides a wave across the Castle, washing it away to reveal a surprise new segment. I haven't yet had a chance to see these displays in person, but the videos I have seen look wonderful. I really look forward to seeing it the next time I'm in Disney World.

Brave merchandise

The Disney Store released several new Brave items today. My personal favorite is the Merida toddler doll. I just love the little smirk and gorgeous red hair! And at $24. 50, she's not even a bad deal for a 16 inch doll. They also have a Merida fashion doll, a soft doll, and a 10 figure play set.

Disney has also released several costume options for little girls. They have an adventure costume, like the one Merida wears on her adventure, as well as a formal costume, similar to the dress Merida wears during the archery tournament. There's even a wild and fiery red wig, full of tangled curls! To complete the look, Disney has created golden gladiator sandals, a golden knot-work tiara, and an archery set with a bow and quiver full of suction cup tipped arrows. (I know Bean would love the archery set because she has been begging for a bow every day since we went to the Georgia Renaissance Festival.) Disney has also created several t-shirts and pajama sets sure to delight little girls.

Have you seen the preview for the Walt Disney Animation Short Films Collection? It's a collection of 12 of Disney's best short films, from John Henry to the never before released Frozen Fever. The shorts include three Oscar nominees and two winners.

Spellbound

Netflix has a new animated fantasy movie coming out next month. Spellbound is the story of a princess whose parent's have been transformed into creatures by a dark curse, and the journey she goes on to save them.

Here's the official synopsis from Netflix:

When a spell turns her parents into monsters, Princess Ellian embarks on an epic quest to reverse the curse before it's too late. This twist on happily ever after is directed by Vicky Jenson ("Shrek") with original score from EGOT-winning composer Alan Menken ("Beauty and the Beast") and lyrics by Glenn Slater ("Tangled"). A Netflix Film from Skydance Animation, "Spellbound" boasts an all-star voice cast led by Rachel Zegler, John Lithgow, Jenifer Lewis, Nathan Lane, Tituss Burgess, with Javier Bardem, and Nicole Kidman.

Spellbound arrives on Netflix on November 22nd.

Disney Princess Legos

Have you seen the newest Disney Princess Legos? They are so cute! They have released several Duplo Princess sets in the last few years, but these are the first Lego sets. The minifigures are similar to the Lego Friends sets, with tiny shaped faces rather than the yellow round heads from my childhood. They have several different hair accessories for each princess, from bows to crowns, and they can also wear any of the accessories from the Lego Friends sets.

There are two Ariel sets, one where she is a mermaid and the other where she is a girl. The first is called Ariel's Amazing Treasures. It's an under the sea set with mermaid Ariel, her fish pal Flounder, a treasure chest, gate, and seaweed.

The second set is called Ariel's Magical Kiss. It has Prince Eric's castle and dock, as well as a boat and the lagoon where Ariel and Eric nearly shared their first kiss. It also has a table and thrones inside the castle where they can share a meal. There's even a tiny frog to serenade them as they float along. The Ariel sets are Bean's favorite.

The Brave set, Merida's Highland Games, is my favorite. Merida is so cute, and her curly red hair is perfect. The set includes Merida, her brothers Hamish, Hubert, and Harris in bear form, and even two tiny wisps. There are three scenes as well, a tree, a catapult that launches tarts, and her father's castle, complete with the family tapestry hanging on the wall. She also has a tiny bow and target for her archery practice.

The Tangled set is called Rapunzel's Creativity Tower. It has Rapunzel, Flynn Ryder, and even a tiny Pascal. Rapunzel's tower is filled with things for her to do, from painting to baking, to capturing Flynn. Rapunzel even has a frying pan to whack people over the head with.

There are also two Cinderella sets. The first is called Cinderella's Dream Carriage. The set includes Cinderella, her blue coach with the awesome filigree wheels, a horse to pull the carriage, a fountain, and the garden bench where Cinderella's Fairy Godmother first made her wish come true.

 The second set is called Cinderella's Romantic Castle. This is the most expensive set, but the castle is impressively large. It includes Cinderella and her Prince, a dog and cat who must be Lucifer, a bathroom complete with bathtub, a throne room, and a garden that's perfect for a picnic and even has a tree swing.

I'm addicted to Legos and was very happy to see these new sets that are more girl friendly. While I don't believe that any toy is only for one gender or the other, it's nice to see companies create toys with themes that children love.
