Can you believe Pixar's Cars first arrived on the big screen 20 years ago? The story of Lightning McQueen and the folks of Radiator Springs has been a favorite in our house since the beginning, due in part to the fact that I lived in a small town on Route 66 for many years.
The movie celebrates those little towns and every building has elements pulled from real locations along the "Mother Road". It's so fun to see familiar sights in the movie, such as the scruffy trees at the courthouse, which look just like the ones outside the courthouse in Kingman, Arizona. And Flo's V8 Cafe has elements of diners in many different towns along the road.
As the original tagline for Cars said,
"Life's a journey. Enjoy the trip."
