Secrets Behind the Tombstones of the Haunted Mansion

Disney
Did you know that many of the names on the tombstones outside the Haunted Mansion are references to legendary Disney Imagineers? "Master Gracey", "Grandpa Marc", and "Haunting Harriet" are just a few of the designers of this spooktacular ride.

Bewitching Props from Hocus Pocus

Disney
A spellbinding collection of costumes and props from Hocus Pocus is currently on display at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood as part of the 25th anniversary celebration of the film. Here are a few of my favorite pieces. The Sanderson Sisters' dresses, designed by Mary Vogt, were created to reflect the personality of each sister: medieval velvet for Winifred, homespun for Mary, and ethereal for Sarah.

Disney
Winifred's spellbook had three different versions: eye open, eye closed, and an eye that could be moved by remote control. The books have human fingers along the spine, metal serpents, a claw clasp, and stitching that make it look like it's pieced from skin.

Disney
The inside of the book is equally detailed. And contains many ornate pages of evil spells.

Disney
At the end of the film, Winifred came in contact with hallowed ground, which turned her into a statue. The statue then turned to dust, much like this display will when the sun comes up on November 1.

Ghostly Tales of the Haunted Mansion

Disney
The Haunted Mansion is one of my favorite rides at Walt Disney World. It's delightfully spooky and full of hidden tales and surprises. Disney has been sharing stories about the happy haunts and secrets in the cemetery queue this month.

For example, did you know that there's a doggie door for the Caretaker's dog on the mansion's grounds?

And have you heard the tale of Captain Culpepper Clyne, the sea captain who was originally created as part of the story inside the mansion?

Imagine what secrets you might discover on your next trip to the Haunted Mansion.

Ant-Man and the Wasp on Bluray

Ant-Man and the Wasp arrives on Blu-ray today. The movie was a fun adventure, much lighter than Avengers: Infinity War. Caution: Spoilers Ahead

After the events in Captain America: Civil War, Scott Lang made a deal that landed him under house arrest. Luckily for him, his time is nearly up. Unluckily, Dr. Hank Pym and Hope VanDyne are about to break him out. Hank and Hope need Scott's help to try and rescue Janet VanDyne, Hope's mother, from the quantum realm. Along the way, they have to seek advice from Hank's old partner, evade an underworld criminal and his goons, and try to stop a mysterious figure called the Ghost. Ant-Man and the Wasp is by turns hilarious and action packed, a great addition to Marvel's First 10 Years.

There are a ton of bonus features on the Blu-ray:
  • Director's Intro by Peyton Reed
  • Making of Featurette
    • Back in the Ant Suit: Scott Lang - the hero and dad keeps everyone laughing
    • A Suit of Her Own: The Wasp - a behind the scenes look at Hope's craziest stunts
    • Subatomic Super Heroes - Hank and Janet's legacy
    • Quantum Perspective: The VFX and Production Design of Ant-Man and the Wasp
  • Gag Reel and Outtakes
    • Gag Reel
    • Stan Lee Outtakes - Stan Lee's hilarious one-liners from his cameo
    • Tim Heidecker Outtakes - Whale Boat Captain Daniel Goobler and his improvisations
  • Deleted Scenes (with commentary by Director Peyton Reed)
    • World's Upon World's
    • Sonny's on the Trail
And a few are Digital Exclusives:

This Aladdin Teaser Trailer is a Diamond in the Rough

    Disney
The first teaser trailer for Aladdin is here, and much like for Beauty and the Beast, it gives just a tiny glimpse of the main character and what's to come. Aladdin arrives in theaters on on May 24, 2019.

Here's the official synopsis from Disney:

“Aladdin” is the exciting tale of the charming street rat Aladdin, the courageous and self-determined Princess Jasmine and the Genie who may be the key to their future. Directed by Guy Ritchie, who brings his singular flair for fast-paced, visceral action to the fictitious port city of Agrabah, the film is written by John August and Ritchie based on Disney’s “Aladdin.”

“Aladdin” stars Will Smith as the larger-than-life Genie; Mena Massoud as the charming scoundrel Aladdin; Naomi Scott as Jasmine, the beautiful, self-determined princess; Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, the powerful sorcerer; Navid Negahban as the Sultan concerned with his daughter’s future; Nasim Pedrad as Dalia, Princess Jasmine’s free-spirited best friend and confidante; Billy Magnussen as the handsome and arrogant suitor Prince Anders; and Numan Acar as Hakim, Jafar’s right-hand man and captain of the palace guards. The film is produced by Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich with Marc Platt and Kevin De La Noy serving as executive producers. Alan Menken provides the score, which includes new recordings of the original songs written by Menken and lyricists Howard Ashman and Tim Rice and two new songs written by Menken and songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. The film, which was shot on practical stages in London and on location amidst the stunning desert vistas of Jordan, has a talented creative team helping to bring Agrabah to life, including: director of photography Alan Stewart, production designer Gemma Jackson and costume designer Michael Wilkinson.

The Twilight Zone - Tower of Terror

"Hollywood, 1939. Amid the glitz and the glitter of a bustling young movie town at the height of its golden age, the Hollywood Tower Hotel was a star in its own right; a beacon for the show business elite. Now, something is about to happen that will change all that. The time is now on an evening very much like the one we have just witnessed. Tonight's story on The Twilight Zone is somewhat unique and calls for a different kind of introduction. This as you may recognize is a maintenance service elevator still in operation, waiting for you. We invite you if you dare to step aboard because in tonight's episode you are the star and this elevator travels directly to... the Twilight Zone."

The Many Faces of Jack Skellington

"Over 500 global creatives were approached to help celebrate the 25th anniversary of everyone's favorite Master of Fright, Jack Skellington. Supplied with only a vinyl Jack head, these artisans crafted inspired pieces that will delight ghosts and ghouls of every age."

These Jack heads, on display in the Co-op Marketplace in Disney Springs, are incredible! I especially like the Porg and the Kakamora. So funny!

    Chocolate Sculptures at EPCOT

Every year at the EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival, Ghirardelli has a chocolate showcase called "The Chocolate Experience: From Bean to the Bar." Located in the Festival Center, there is an assortment of chocolate available for purchase, including chocolate drinks, as well as a display of amazing works of art, created entirely from chocolate by Disney chocolatiers. This year featured chocolate sculptures of Wakanda, Toy Story Land, Tikis, and a leopard.  But my favorite was the Headless Horseman, with Ichabod peaking out from behind a tree and a hidden Mickey Pumpkin in the pumpkin patch. It's hard to believe such things can be crafted from chocolate.
