Disney
There are five delightful new character posters for Disney's live-action Dumbo. I love that each poster has a Burton-esque circus look to it and a red and blue color scheme. The first poster features Dumbo, the adorable little elephant with the big ears.

The "Baby Mine" Dumbo Trailer Is Sad and Sweet

Disney
The latest Dumbo trailer features a new version of "Baby Mine" by Arcade Fire. It also provides a glimpse of the darkness hiding in Dreamland.

Here's the official synopsis from Disney:

From Disney and visionary director Tim Burton, “Dumbo” expands on the beloved classic story where differences are celebrated, family is cherished and dreams take flight.

Circus owner Max Medici (Danny DeVito) enlists former star Holt Farrier (Colin Farrell) and his children Milly (Nico Parker) and Joe (Finley Hobbins) to care for a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him a laughingstock in an already struggling circus. But when they discover that Dumbo can fly, the circus makes an incredible comeback, attracting persuasive entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere (Michael Keaton), who recruits the peculiar pachyderm for his newest, larger-than-life entertainment venture, Dreamland. Dumbo soars to new heights alongside a charming and spectacular aerial artist, Colette Marchant (Eva Green), until Holt learns that beneath its shiny veneer, Dreamland is full of dark secrets.

Funko's Disney Treasures Boxes Subscription

Funko
When Funko announced that they were adding a Disney Treasures box to their subsciption lineup, I was excited. I've been thinking about ordering one of the Marvel or Star Wars boxes because they sounded pretty cool, but I didn't want a million t-shirts. The Disney Treaures boxes seemed like the perfect choice: Disney POPVinyls and few, if any, t-shirts.

When I saw a sneak peek of a character from the first box, Pirate's Cove, I knew I had to have it. I wanted the Mr. Smee POPVinyl to go with the Captain Hook I've had for years. Since the boxes contain exclusive collectibles, it made a subscription very appealing. I will admit, I did watch the spoiler video, which showed another item from the first box, a Dorbz Ridez of the Wicked Wench complete with a captain sporting a beribboned, braided beard. I ordered the six box plan, one every other month for a year, and began waiting for it to arrive.

Several weeks later, a box arrived, printed to look like a chest with a Mickey padlock. I couldn't wait to see what other treasures would be inside. When I opened the lid, I found a Captain Hook patch, a pirate Mickey pin, and a Disney Treasures Pioneer pin. The inside of the lid showed a map with all of the themed lands marked on it. Under the flap was a paper with more information about the collectibles on one side, and a fold-out map with a dotted line from Pirate's Cove to the next destination, Festival of Friends, on the other. There was also a Pirate's Cove sticker.

Finally, the moment I'd been waiting for, the collectibles. First up was Mr. Smee, looking absolutely adorable from his stocking cap to his toes, with his belly peeking out in between. Next up was the Wicked Wench, a highly detailed vessel with a removable captain. The final item came in a tin decorated with scenes from the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. Inside was the cutest little Captain Jack Sparrow Mystery Mini. He even has his compass.

I was very happy with the first box, but had two months to wait for the second one. When June arrived, I received an email with tracking information for the next box from Funko. I waited for it, and waited, and waited, and waited, all the while trying not to see any of the unboxing videos cropping up everywhere. Somewhere between DHL and USPS, the tracking stopped. After several very annoying days, I had to file a missing package claim just to get USPS to actually deliver my package. It arrived the next day. So far, the shipping method is my only real complaint about the subscription.

Box number two was similar to the first. It contained a Piglet patch and a Thumper pin in the top. Under the flap was a flying Dumbo with Timothy on his hat. It has a clear acrylic stand attached to the bottom so Dumbo can "fly". The second figure was a POPVinyl Pluto, who.was very cute. The last figure was in a tin decorated with scenes from Toy Story Mania. Inside was the most adorable Sherriff Woody, Mystery Mini. He really is too cute, from his plaid shirt to the tiny pull string loop on his back.

So far, I'm very happy with the additions to my Funko Disney collection. And if you can avoid all the spoiler videos, it's a lot of fun to open up a new surprise every other month. If you've considered purchasing one of Funko's subscription boxes, try the Disney Treasures. It's perfect for Disney collectors. The next box's theme is Tiny Town. So far, the box will contain a Flying Tinker Bell POPVinyl. It will ship out sometime around the first week of August.

New Pressed Pennies In Disney World

Disney World 50th Anniversary Celebration
Pennies

I've loved collecting pressed pennies since I was a little kid. They're the perfect souvenir: small and portable, inexpensive, and easy to store or display once you get back home. I have pennies from places I've visited all over the country, but the vast majority have come from Disney Parks.

As part of the 50th Anniversary Celebration at Disney World, 53 new designs have popped up throughout the parks. While I prefer the old hand-crank machines where I can use my own carefully saved pre-1982 copper pennies, many of the new automated machines contain new, uncirculated pennies. Either way, they're still a fun collectible.

Designs include 50 single character designs, one Mickey and Minnie celebration design, and two resort coins. Here's a list of the characters you can find:
  • Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Goofy, Donald, Daisy, Chip, and Dale
  • Jiminy Cricket, Pinocchio, Cheshire Cat, Lady, Tramp, Dumbo, Timothy Mouse, Mad Hatter, Tinker Bell
  • Simba, Timon, Pumba
  • Pua, Hei-Hei, Miguel, Dante, Bruni, Olaf, Joe Gardner
  • Sebastian, Flounder, Lumiere, Cogsworth, Genie, Abu, Stitch
  • Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, Bambi, Thumper, Gus-Gus, Jacques
  • Woody, Bo Peep, Nemo, Dory, Frozone, Edna Mode
  • Figment, Orange Bird,
  • BB-8, R2-D2
If you'd like to collect these new designs on your next visit to the parks, Disney has actually made finding the machines easier. Just open the My Disney Experience app and search for "Coin Press Machines". Select "Find On Map" to see machine locations throught the Walt Disney World Resort.

New Fantasyland website

Disney
Are you looking forward to the new Fantasyland expansion at Walt Disney World? If so, Disney has released a new minisite to tease and tantalize with hints about all of the wonder that will soon be revealed. Both the website and a new trailer tell of a land under a curse, where you can be the hero that breaks the spell and reveals all. To be that hero, you simply need to add your email address to be informed when the curse has been broken.

The Fantasyland expansion includes Storybook Circus, where Dumbo flies and the Casey Junior train can be found, Under the Sea: The Journey of the Little Mermaid, a new Little Mermaid clamshell ride similar to Nemo at EPCOT, Belle's Village, which features Gaston's Tavern, Maurice's Workshop for Storytime with Belle, and the Be Our Guest Restaurant, based on the Beast's castle. All of these areas are scheduled to open on December 6, 2012, with a Passholder preview on November 19, 2012. Sometime in 2013, a Seven Dwarfs Mine Train ride will also be added.

I'm really excited to see the new Fantasyland, although I'll probably have to wait until sometime next year. The photos and videos of the behind the scenes work that Disney has released have been amazing! Every detail is being carefully attended to and the Be Our Guest Restaurant is just beautiful. I've always wanted to go inside the Beast's castle, and now I will get a chance to do just that. What are you looking forward to the most?

Magic Kingdom's 45th Anniversary

Disney
Yesterday marked the Magic Kingdom's 45th anniversary. To celebrate, Disney presented a stage show featuring 45 characters and a live performance of "When You Wish Upon a Star."

A special limited time celebration cupcake featuring the anniversary logo and Mickey ears could be found at several locations. And a crazy hotdog, called the 45th Anniversary Celebration Dog, covered in potatoes, cheddar cheese, bacon, onion straws, and chipotle-ranch drizzle was available at Casey's Corner

Merchandise celebrating this milestone can be found throughout the parks during the coming year. There are several different shirts for the whole family, and even lounge pants covered in attraction logos.

Souvenirs include a pennant with candy in the handle, pens, antenna toppers, keychain, a light-up ornament, and even a 1000 piece puzzle.

Mugs, tumblers, and shot glasses featuring the 45th anniversary logo, as well as a copper coin in an acrylic display, a silver plated coin in a box, and a photo frame featuring many attraction logos will also be available.

Dooney and Burke collectors will love the new handbags. The pattern pairs Mickey with other attraction icons such as Madame Leota, a Tiki Room bird, and Dumbo.

And pin lovers can find several new designs to collect and trade, including a commemorative pin for Passholder.

A new mystery pin set of eight different pins, two randomly selected pins per box, will also feature ride logos.

And the new Passholder perks are incredible. Starting today, guests who purchase a new annual pass will receive 13 months for the price of 12. Passholder will also receive 20% off the price of food and non-alcoholic drinks at 45 park and resort hotel restaurants for the next year. This includes restaurants like Jiko and the Jungle Skipper Canteen as well as quick service locations like D-luxe Burger. Passholders will recieve 10% off at additional select table-service reastaurants. On top of the dining discounts, the merchandise discount is also being raised to 20% off at Disney owned-and-operated locations. That can save you quite a bit, making a trip to Disney World a little more affordable.

So here's to 45 years of magic at Walt Disney World. I can't wait to see what other celebration magic is in store.

Tsum Tsum Vinyl Minis Series 1

I adore the squishy, plush Tsum Tsums from Disney. They're adorable and collectible and come in five sizes and a multitude of themes. There are also mini stackable Tsum Tsums from Jakks Pacific, which are made of vinyl and come in three sizes. So far, Disney has released Series 1, 2, and 3 with Disney and Pixar characters, and Series 1 of a Marvel collection as well. These are just as collectible as the plush Tsums, but their smaller size means you can cram even more into a tiny space.

The mini Tsum Tsums are available with a couple different options:
  • Mystery Stack Packs - blind bags with a cute accessory themed to each medium Tsum
  • Packages of three: one small, one medium, one large
  • Packages of nine: three of each size, with one medium one being a mystery

The Mystery Stack Packs are a lot of fun. You can kind of squish them and guess which one is in each package, which really helps to avoid duplicates. The accessories in the blind bags can be used with the small, medium, and large vinyl figures to add to the stacking fun.

The 10 Series 1 Mystery Stack Pack figures include:
  • Minnie with a bow
  • Dale with acorns
  • Stitch with a rocket shop
  • Cheshire Cat with trees
  • Dumbo with camera
  • Figaro with fishbowl
  • Lucky with TV
  • Marie with bed
  • Winnie the Pooh with hunny pot
  • Sebastian with shell

Stitch and Sebastian are my favorites from Series 1. They are absolutely adorable, and so happy. It took a little searching, but I finally have the whole Mystery Stack Pack set.

Additional figures available in the three sizes include: Perry the Platypus, Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Pluto, Donald, Daisy, Anna, Elsa, Cinderella, Gusgus, Alice, White Rabbit, Tigger, Piglet, and Eeyore.

Tomorrow, I'll share the ridiculously cute characters from Series 2.

Disney Dreams That Soar At Disney Springs

Disney Dreams That Soar At Disney Springs
Disney

A new nighttime drone show is headed to Disney Springs this Thursday. The theme of the show is characters who dream of flying. Some 800 drones (more than double the number of drones in Starlight Holidays) will work in sync with familiar music to create a stunning display across the night sky. From a Baymax who inflates to nearly twice the height of Spaceship Earth, to classic characters like Dumbo and Peter Pan, and unexpected favorites such as the Rocketeer, there will be something for everyone.

There will be two shows nightly, weather permitting, from May 24 - September 2. The best place to watch the 10 minute show will be along the waterway in the Disney Springs West Side.

POP! Vinyl Series 5

Funko
I just love Funko's POP! Vinyl collections, especially the Disney collections. I have a few from the first three series, and really want the Captain Jack Sparrow from series  four. On June 15th, the fifth series will be released. It includes several classic characters from early Disney movies as well as new characters from Pixar films. Here's the list of of characters for series 5: Baloo and King Louie from the Jungle Book, Alice from Alice in Wonderland, Dumbo, Carl and Russell from UP, Jafar, Jasmine, and Genie from Aladdin, the Rocketeer, Merida from Brave, and Mary Poppins.

And be sure to keep an eye out for the new Cupcake Keepsakes. They are a crazy combination of Disney characters and cupcakes and they are adorable! Cupcake Keepsakes are 3 inches tall and have removable frosting  and a super cute display that looks like a pedestal cake stand with a cover. Apparently, you can store things in their heads. Characters are expected to include Lilo and Stitch, Mickey and Minnie, Tinker Bell, Snow White and the Evil Queen, Maleficent, Winnie the Pooh, and Miss Piggy and Kermit.

Tsum Tsum Vacation Collection

The Tsums are ready to travel in this latest collection from the Disney Store. The collection includes Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald, Daisy, Chip, Dale, and Dumbo all dressed for their vacation. I love how over the top their outfits are.

Two other sets that will be released this week are part of the new micro series. First up is an Ice Cream Truck that includes Donald, Daisy,  Stitch, and Angel, dressed up for ice cream fun.

The second set is a Circus tent that includes Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, and Goofy dressed as circus performers. The micro Tsum Tsums are so teeny and cute!
