Disney Princess Legos

Have you seen the newest Disney Princess Legos? They are so cute! They have released several Duplo Princess sets in the last few years, but these are the first Lego sets. The minifigures are similar to the Lego Friends sets, with tiny shaped faces rather than the yellow round heads from my childhood. They have several different hair accessories for each princess, from bows to crowns, and they can also wear any of the accessories from the Lego Friends sets.

There are two Ariel sets, one where she is a mermaid and the other where she is a girl. The first is called Ariel's Amazing Treasures. It's an under the sea set with mermaid Ariel, her fish pal Flounder, a treasure chest, gate, and seaweed.

The second set is called Ariel's Magical Kiss. It has Prince Eric's castle and dock, as well as a boat and the lagoon where Ariel and Eric nearly shared their first kiss. It also has a table and thrones inside the castle where they can share a meal. There's even a tiny frog to serenade them as they float along. The Ariel sets are Bean's favorite.

The Brave set, Merida's Highland Games, is my favorite. Merida is so cute, and her curly red hair is perfect. The set includes Merida, her brothers Hamish, Hubert, and Harris in bear form, and even two tiny wisps. There are three scenes as well, a tree, a catapult that launches tarts, and her father's castle, complete with the family tapestry hanging on the wall. She also has a tiny bow and target for her archery practice.

The Tangled set is called Rapunzel's Creativity Tower. It has Rapunzel, Flynn Ryder, and even a tiny Pascal. Rapunzel's tower is filled with things for her to do, from painting to baking, to capturing Flynn. Rapunzel even has a frying pan to whack people over the head with.

There are also two Cinderella sets. The first is called Cinderella's Dream Carriage. The set includes Cinderella, her blue coach with the awesome filigree wheels, a horse to pull the carriage, a fountain, and the garden bench where Cinderella's Fairy Godmother first made her wish come true.

 The second set is called Cinderella's Romantic Castle. This is the most expensive set, but the castle is impressively large. It includes Cinderella and her Prince, a dog and cat who must be Lucifer, a bathroom complete with bathtub, a throne room, and a garden that's perfect for a picnic and even has a tree swing.

I'm addicted to Legos and was very happy to see these new sets that are more girl friendly. While I don't believe that any toy is only for one gender or the other, it's nice to see companies create toys with themes that children love.

New Disney Princess Legos

Have you seen the latest Disney Princess Legos? Bean and I absolutely love Legos of any sort, but she's especially fond of the Princess ones. The latest sets feature Jasmine, Aurora, Ariel and one of her sisters, along with Anna, Elsa,and Olaf.

Jasmine's Exotic Palace includes Princess Jasmine and Rajah, a magic carpet, a small section of the Sultan's Palace, a market stall, and fountain. Oh, and I can't leave out the most adorable little Genie's lamp.

Sleeping Beauty's Royal Bedroom includes Princess Auroras and a bunny, her bed, dressing table, a window, and of course, a spinning wheel complete with spindle. Her bed opens up to hide secret treasures, such as one of the fairies' wands.

Ariel's Undersea Palace is a large set, which includes Princess Ariel and her sister Princess Alana, Sebastian, Flounder, and a dolphin, and King Triton's Palace complete with bedroom, dining room, music room, and a slide. There's also a chest filled with Ariel's human treasures, such as a treasure map and spyglass.

Elsa's Sparkling Ice Castle is the last new set. It includes Queen Elsa, Princess Anna, and Olaf, a three story castle dripping with ice, a sleigh and ice hill to slide down, and Olaf's summer picnic. The ice hill opens to hide Olaf's sandwich and cookies, and the castle stairs close up to keep out unwanted visitors.

I love all these new Legos, but my favorite has to be Elsa's Sparkling Ice Castle: Kristoff's sleigh and Olaf's picnic just crack me up. These new sets range in price from $12.99 for the Aurora set, to $54.99 for the Ariel one, but they are well worth the price for the hours of creative fun they bring. The Little Mermaid - Choices

With each new trailer for Disney's live-action The Little Mermaid, I'm drawn further into Ariel's world. It's looking like it will be quite good, much like the live-action Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin. 

Here's the official synopsis from Disney: 

"The Little Mermaid" is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. The youngest of King Triton’s daughters and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea and, while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy. Voyage of the Little Mermaid at Hollywood Studios

The Voyage of the Little Mermaid is a 17 minute live action show. Located in the Animation Courtyard in Hollywood Studios, the theater is well air-conditioned, so it's perfect for a hot day. I love to watch this show; the music and special effects are delightful.

The show starts approximately every 25 minutes, so if you arrive just after a show starts, you will have about a 20 minute wait. Fortunately, the waiting area is covered, so it does offer some relief from the Florida sun. Once inside the outer room, there is a brief pre-show with one child chosen from the audience to help introduce the show. This outer room has fascinating decorations, such as old diving suits, the kind with the huge brass helmet, tridents, nets, and many more ocean related objects, so it's worth taking the time to look around.

When you enter the theater, choose a row that is partially filled, or allow others to go before you so that you can be close to the center of the row. And try to stay at lest 4 rows back from the front for the best view. After everyone is seated, the lights dim and a wonderful stage show begins.

The Voyage of the Little Mermaid is full of music, fish, and special effects. The fish, directed by Sebastian, sing "Under the " a fun, black light, underwater dance. Bubbles float down from the ceiling and a cool breeze blows. Ariel rescues Eric and sings "Part of Your World" while flipping her tail. She then goes to see Ursula, who is a huge and amazing puppet that may frighten small children. Ursula sings "Poor Unfortunate Souls" as Ariel gives up her voice. There are laser Ursula's on the walls and ceiling and mist falling on the audience. Parts of the movie play out on a large screen at the back of the stage. You see Ariel and Eric fall in love and scenes leading up to the final battle with Ursula. Ariel is left wishing she could be with Eric. King Triton takes pity on his youngest daughter, and magically transforms her tail into a sparkly dress so that she and Eric can live happily ever after.

If you like watching The Little Mermaid, you will enjoy The Voyage of the Little Mermaid. This is a dark show that has occasional frightening moments that may be too intense for young children. You can see the show daily, approximately every 25 minutes. Be sure to pick up a Times Guide for exact times. Audio Description, Reflective Captioning and Assistive Listening are available. This show is Wheelchair/ECV accessible.

A new trailer for Disney's The Little Mermaid appeared during the Oscars last night. This one shows several more familiar characters, including King Triton and Ursula. And there's a new poster, too.

Disney Tub Toys

I love Disney tub toys! We have several sets (it seems like at least one set is on clearance every time we go to Disney World), but my favorite is the It's a Small World boat with children from various countries. The children represent China, Mexico, Italy, Africa, and Japan. They sit in the boat and float along as your child plays in the tub. We purchased this on our one trip to Disneyland since Bean was born. She loves it and has played with it for several years. Recently, Disney released a new version of the boat with Donald in his Mexican costume at the front. The set also includes Alice in Wonderland, Aladdin, Stitch and Peter Pan. It is absolutely adorable!

Disney also has several character sets, generally in groups of 5 - 7, that come in a storage bag. We have 3-4 of these sets. My sister's favorite is the Nightmare Before Christmas set with Jack Skellington, Sally, Oogie Boogie, the Mayor, and Zero. We have a set with Alice in Wonderland, Aladdin, Peter Pan, Hercules, Pinocchio and Dopey. Another set is Pixar characters: Mr. Incredible, Dash, Buzz Lightyear, Sulley from Monsters Inc, Nemo, and Woody. The set I love is one that we haven't purchased yet, the Star Wars set: Yoda, C-3PO, R2-D2, Chewbacca, Darth Vader, Clone Trooper, and Boba Fett. Maybe when we go to Star Wars Weekends, if it's still available.

Other sets include a classic characters set: Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, and Pluto; a Playhouse Disney set with Mickey & Minnie from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Handy Manny, Lumpy & Darby from Tigger & Pooh Supersleuths, and Leo & June from Little Einsteins; and a Princess set with Cinderella, Ariel, Snow White, Belle, Aurora, and TinkerBell.

In addition to sets, we have a few Donald Duck rubber duckies. My favorite is Donald in the Haunted Mansion Doom Buggy. We also have a few Princesses made for the tub or pool. Bean loves her Ariel that changes color with warm or cool water. In all, there are a lot of Disney toys for kids to have fun with in the tub.

Villainous Treats at EPCOT

The most villainous cupcakes have appeared at EPCOT this week, just in time for Halloween. The three spooktacular desserts can be found at Sunshine Seasons, but only until October 31.

• Ursula - bubblegum mousse on vanilla cake with a black mirror glaze, and Ariel's contract and Ursula's shell necklace decoration
• Cruella DeVil - chocolate and meringue cake with cream cheese filling and a kiss decoration
• Queen of Hearts - chocolate cake with strawberry cream cheese icing, a crown, and a "painting the roses red" decoration

Itty Bittys at Hallmark

Have you seen the new Itty Bittys at Hallmark? They are so adorable! I think Sulley is my favorite. These Itty Bittys are about 4 inches tall and super soft. I can see them quickly becoming a new addiction. Oh, d-d-d-dear! Mike and Sulley from Monsters, Inc are super cute, but I hope they'll make Boo, too.

There are several friends from the Hundred Acre Woods including Winnie the Pooh, Eeyore, Tigger, and Piglet.

Princess Aurora and Tinker Bell

There are a lot of Princesses including Aurora, an absolutely adorable Ariel in mermaid form (which I may have to find for mermaid loving Bean), Cinderella in her ballgown, Snow White, and Jasmine. And this adorable TinkerBell, too.

Mickey and Minnie

Classic Disney characters include Mickey, Minnie, Bambi and Thumper.

POP! Vinyl Series 3

Funko

The third series of POPVinyl are now available at Disney Stores nationwide. Series 3 figures include: Peter Pan and Captain Hook, Ariel and Ursula from the Little Mermaid, Elastigirl and Edna Mode from the Incredibles, Donald Duck, Winnie the Pooh, the Little Green Man and Emperor Zurg from Toy Story, and the Cheshire Cat and the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland. They are available exclusively from the Disney Store and DisneyStore.com at a cost of $12.50 each.

Funko

Also arriving sometime later this year are a collection of Muppet POP! Vinyls. This set will include: Snowth, Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie, Mahna Mahna, Dr. Teeth, and Animal. The preliminary designs aren't as smooth as the Disney series, but hopefully that will be fixed before they are released. I will include an update as more information becomes available.

Disneyland trip - California Adventure

As I'm sure you've guessed if you've been following my instagram, I just got back from a short trip to Disneyland.  We've spent the last month and a half fixing up my Mom's house in Arizona, so we decided to go to Disneyland as a reward for all our hard work.  We only stayed for two days, so we visited one park each day.

First, we went to California Adventure. I had never been to Cars Land before,  and I absolutely loved it! It looked just like the movie, which looks just like my hometown. It was especially gorgeous at night with all the neon lit up. Our favorite ride was definitely the Radiator Springs Racers. The cars were fast and the views were awesome. And besides, our car won! We also enjoyed the other Cars Land rides. Mater's Junkyard Jamboree was hilarious! Those little tractors really do whip around. And Luigi's Flying Tires were crazy fun to try to "drive". We had breakfast at Flo's V8 Cafe.  I especially liked the Cars waffles from the kids meal. And the restaurant is so cool. The left side has several of Flo's records from her days as a Motown singer. The right side is Doc Hudson's office and has car replacement parts as well as his trophies from the Piston Cup. They were huge! In the afternoon,  Bean had the mac and cheese meal in a Lightning McQueen car. It wasn't a ton of mac and cheese, but it was more than enough for her. I tried a Chili Con Queso Cone from the Cozy Cone, and it was pretty good. While we were eating, we saw DJ's Dance 'n' Drive. I especially liked the carhop costumes. They were so 50s. My Mom and Bean had chocolate ice cream cones from the Cozy Cone in the evening, and they were huge!

We also got a surprise chance to ride the Grizzly River Run. It wasn't supposed to open back up until Friday, but they got the refurb finished early,  so it opened just as we were walking by. Wow, is that a wet ride! I would say it's at least as wet as Kali River Rapids in Disney World! After we Were soaked,  we wandered down the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail so that Bean could earn her Senior Wilderness Scout Badge. She loved the rock wall and the towers with the netting to climb. She managed to finish just in time for the Wilderness Explorer Ceremony, where we got to meet Russell.

On our way to Paradise Pier, we stopped to watch the Phineas and Ferb Rockin' Rollin' Dance Party Parade. It was really cute, with lots of songs from the TV show. And the dancers were dressed as Fireside Girls; too cute! Bean convinced me to ride California Screamin' for the first time. She loved it, but I'm still not sure I like roller coasters with loops. The other Paradise Pier rides were fun. I really liked the Silly Symphony Swings, which reminded me of the ones I used to ride at Lake Fair as a child. None of us enjoyed Goofy's Sky School, it was way too jerky and rough. The Jumpin' Jellyfish were fun without being fancy. We all liked the Golden Zephyr and King Triton's Carousel. We also rode the Little Mermaid - Ariel's Undersea Adventure, which is so cute.

Toward the end of the night, we headed toward the front of the park. My Mom rode Soarin' for the first time and loved it. She can't wait to ride it again this fall when we go to Disney World. Then we watched the last Aladdin - A Musical, of the day. It was hilarious! The jokes the genie told were somewhat inappropriate at times,  but they were over most kids heads and actually really funny.  It was one of the best shows I've ever seen at a Disney park. We stopped by the Mad Tea Party for a minute. I loved the costumes and the music,  but it was much too loud. Then we rode Monsters, Inc. Mike and Sulley to the Rescue.

After taking one last peek at Cars Land before we left (I just had to see all the neon lit up), we headed toward Buena Vista Street, where I got the cutest Olaf marshmallow for Bean. (We discovered later that it was dipped in caramel before the white chocolate. Yum!) While I would have liked to see World of Color, the crowds were just too big. Next up, our day at Disneyland.

Disney Adult PJs

I was wandering around Walmart the other day, when I happened upon the funniest jammies in the ladies department. They had a bunch of character inspired, adult sized, sleeper pajamas, like the footie pajamas most of us wore as kids. These don't actually have feet, and they're so outrageous, I'm not sure who would wear them, but they are pretty cute. They had Ariel Mermaid pjs and a furry Chewbacca, complete with bandolier which would cause you to roast in most climates.

There was also a Jack Skellington pair that would be great for the month of October. These crazy jammies are fairly affordable at around $20 each. Would you wear them?

Trip to the World

I just got back from a six day trip to Disney World and I have loads of new information to share.

Magic Kingdom:
The new Fantasyland expansion is in full swing. They have blocked off large sections of what used to be Pooh Corner and some backstage areas so that they can begin construction. There are several pictures on the walls hiding the construction that detail all of the changes. While I'm not sure how I feel about the new Princess-themed land, it should be amazing when it's finished. They haven't closed Toontown yet, which was great for us because we love Goofy's Barnstormer, but it should be closing in the next few months.

We ate at Tony's Town Square for the first time. We had a little trouble getting to the restaurant because we got stuck in Toontown in a torrential downpour and Tony's is near the front gate, but we threw on ponchos and made a mad dash for it. The food at Tony's was really good, both dinner and the desserts. However, the atmosphere was not what I had expected. It was rather dark and tried to be upscale rather than the family dining experience that they advertise. The seating was very crowded. However, our waitress was very attentive and nice.

EPCOT:
We had our first character meal this trip. We decided to go for the Princess Storybook Dining at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was wonderful. We were greeted by Belle when we came in. Bean got to spend several minutes talking with her before they took a photo, which was included in the price of the meal. Once we were seated, our very attentive server explained the Norwegian buffet to us and took our orders. My sister and I ordered the traditional Norwegian meatballs, but Bean ordered pizza. After everyone in our section had been served, the Princesses began to make their way through the dining hall. We saw Cinderella, Ariel, Snow White, and Aurora. They spend about a minute with each child, sign autographs and pose for pictures. They were all wonderful. At the end of the meal, they brought out the dessert plate, a preset selection of three different desserts. They were fabulous! I would definitely consider returning to Akershus.

Hollywood Studios:
They have re-imagined the Tower of Terror, adding all new drop sequences. The last room before the elevator shaft has been altered to remain dark as you travel through it. The new drop sequences add a new thrill for long time riders and new riders alike.

We rode Star Tours several times as it is scheduled to close for renovations soon. It's Bean's favorite ride, so we couldn't pass up what may be our last chance to ride the old ride.

Lotso Huggin' Bear has been added to the characters that you can meet at the Magic of Disney Animation. He is huge and pink and really does smell like strawberries!

We ate at the 50s Prime Time Cafe for the second time. Again the meal and the service were fabulous. It's such a fun place to eat and totally reminds me of my paternal grandmother's house. We ordered Bean the Mickey's Bee Bop Drink with the glowing ice cubes. When the waiter first brought it out, it was pale pink. Bean said that it wasn't pink enough, so he took it back and added extra cherry syrup. She was thrilled. When she asked for a refill before we left, he even took her back to the kitchen and let her watch as he made it to make sure she had enough cherry in her drink!

Animal Kingdom:
At the Animal Kingdom, we decided to eat at the Yak and Yeti for the first time. Unfortunately, it wasn't the greatest experience. The ambiance was fantastic. The theme of the place was great. The drinks were wonderful; my sister ordered a Yak Attack which she loved, and I ordered a Glacier Water, which I also enjoyed. For the meal, I ordered the Maple Tamarind Chicken which I didn't really care for at all. My sister ordered the MalAsian Seafood Curry which she enjoyed but it didn't really agree with her. In all, I don't know that I would eat there again because the Yak and Yeti counter service was actually better and less expensive than eating in the restaurant.

All in all, it was a good trip. We got to experience several new dining choices and revisit some old favorites. As always, we truly enjoyed our latest trip to the World.

Funko POP! 3D Bookmarks

Funko has a new line of Vinyl bookmarks that are awesome! Each bookmark features a 3D vinyl head and a printed body that can be squashed in a book. They have several different designs that will be available, including figures from both new POPVinyl collections and older collections as well.

Some of the bookmarks feature classic Disney characters, such as Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Tinker Bell, and Maleficent. They also have a set of four Disney Princesses: Ariel, Cinderella, Belle, and Snow White.

Pixar characters include Sulley from Monsters University and Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story. There will also be several Marvel characters to choose from, including the Mark 42 and Iron Patriot from Iron Man 3, a basic Iron Man from the first movie, the Hulk and Spider-Man.

So, which one is your favorite? I know I'll have a hard time choosing!

LEGO Disney Princess: Villains Unite

The LEGO Princesses are back to fight Gaston once again. In this sequel to LEGO Disney Princess: The Castle Quest, Gaston has gathered more Villains to help with his evil plot, so the Princesses call in some extra help too.

Here's the official synopsis from LEGO: 

After Ariel, Moana, Tiana, Rapunzel, and Snow White thwarted Gaston’s plan to take over all of their kingdoms, he calls upon Ursula, Jafar, and the Evil Queen to help take the Princesses down once and for all.
