Thor: Ragnarok Photos

Photos courtesy of Entertainment Weekly
The first photos from Thor: Ragnarok have appeared on Entertainment Weekly. They show Thor's new short hairdo as well as several new characters. The full article will be available on Friday in Entertainment Weekly magazine.

Thor (Chris Hemsworth) has a new look. It's a bit edgier and a lot more warrior-like, which fits the darker storyline.

Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) is Thor's new ally.

Loki (Tom Hiddleston) is back, and most likely stirring up mischief in Asgard. But isn't he always?

Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) and Thor are together again. What kind of trouble will Banner get into on Sakaar, where he and Thor must battle for their lives gladiator style?

Hela (Cate Blanchett) is the Goddess of Death and Thor's nemesis. She wants to destroy all of Asgard.

Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum) is "a hedonist, a pleasure-seeker, an enjoyer of life and tastes and smells," according to Goldblum.

Here's the official synopsis from Marvel:

In Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok — the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization — at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger — the Incredible Hulk!

Thor: Ragnarok arrives in theaters on November 3, 2017.

Thor: Ragnarok on Digital and Blu-ray

Marvel
The wait for Thor: Ragnarok to arrive on digital and Blu-ray is almost over. The digital version will be available on February 20, and the Blu-ray will be available on March 6. Marvel released a quick trailer for the release, which includes one of my favorite Loki moments, a reference to his "puny god" scene with the Hulk.

Both versions are loaded with extras, which may include:
  • A Director's Introduction by TaikaWaititi
  • Deleted and Extended Scenes
  • Gag Reel
  • An Exclusive Darryl Short: The Grandmaster becomes Darryl's new roommate
  • Marvel Studios: The First Ten Years - The Evolution of Heroes - a look at the MCU and how our heroes places within the timeline will culminate in Avengers: Infinity War
  • Getting in Touch with Your Inner Thor
  • Unstoppable Women: Hela & Valkyrie
  • Finding Korg - a tongue-in-cheek look at the casting of Korg and the visual effects that brought the worlds of Thor: Ragnarok to life
  • Sakaar: On the Edge of the Known and Unknown
  • Journey into Mystery - how the writers, director, and producer found inspiration for Thor: Ragnarok within the comics
  • 8bit Scenes - the major battles presented in retro video-game format
  • Director's Commentary
There are also two digital exclusives:
  • Evolution of Thor and Hulk's Bromance
  • Additional Deleted Scenes

Thor: Ragnarok Review

Marvel
I saw Thor: Ragnarok last week and I absolutely loved it! It's a rollicking adventure with a lot of comedy to lighten up the darker moments, and all about family, which makes for a fun film. Caution: Spoilers Ahead.

Marvel
The film starts with Thor travelling around the galaxy, trying to prevent the coming of Ragnarok, which will bring about the downfall of Asgard. He quickly defeats the giant Surtur and returns to Asgard. There he discovers an odd tableau.

Marvel
Odin is lounging around, watching a play featuring the overly dramatic death of Loki (who is humorously played by Matt Damon, opposite Luke Hemsworth's Thor and Sam Neill as Odin.) Thor quickly assesses the situation and forces Loki to drop his Odin disguise. They head to Earth in search of the Allfather and run into Doctor Strange, who helps them on their way.

Marvel
In Norway, Odin reveals that he has another child, Hela, his eldest, goddess of death. She has been imprisoned for centuries, but as Odin'  power fails, she will soon be released. When she appears, Thor and Loki attempt to stop her. Hela destroys Mjollnir, and Loki attempts to flee to Asgard, with disastrous results.

Marvel
Thor finds himself in a junkyard on an unfamiliar world, surrounded by people who want to eat him. He is captured by Valkyrie,  who presents him to the Grandmaster as a champion for his arena. Thor finds that Loki has also landed on Sakaar, but is looking out for his own interest. Thor then prepares to meet the Grandmaster's champion. (Love the cameo by Stan Lee as a crazy barber.) Of course, the champion is the Hulk, who has been the big green for two years, with no sign of Bruce Banner reappearing.

Thor now has to battle his way from Sakaar to Asgard, build an army, and save his world. You'll have to see how it ends for yourself, but the battles are pretty epic. I can't wait to watch it again!

Thor: Ragnarok Casting

Marvel has confirmed the cast for Thor: Ragnarok, and it's quite the who's who of actors. At least four of the original Thor cast are returning for this next film: Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Idris Elba as Heimdall, and Sir Anthony Hopkins as Odin, along with Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/the Hulk. New faces include Cate Blanchett as the villain Hela, Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster, Tesla Thompson as Valkyrie, and Karl Urban as Skurge.

“The continuation of the epic Thor franchise will be powerful and unique, and with the additions of Cate, Jeff, Tessa, Karl, and Mark to the cast we have the makings of his most dangerous and heroic adventure yet,” said Producer Kevin Feige. “The sheer, raw talent each of these actors brings to the screen can’t be quantified. Having any one of them join the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be an honor, and having all of them is incredible."

I keep seeing this Thor: Ragnarok clip everywhere, and it's still funny. It seems to describe Thor and Loki's relationship rather perfectly.

These Thor: Ragnarok Arena Clash Legos are Marvelous

The Thor vs Hulk Arena Clash Legos are definitely my new favorite. I absolutely adore Legos in general, but the Marvel sets are especially awesome. This set includes: Thor (with lightning eyes), the Hulk (in battle armor), Loki (with or without his horns), the Grandmaster, and a Sakaarian guard. There are also several moving parts to help play out the battle: Thor has a jumping base, Loki and the Grandmaster can be unceremoniously dumped from their seats, the gates open to reveal the Hulk, two towers topple to the ground, and one wall bursts apart, while another contains a hidden cache of weapons. In all, it's a great set, perfect for any Marvel or Lego fan.
