Seattle is a very different place when viewed from underground. These lovely purple vaultlights once allowed light onto the old sidewalks after the street level was raised more than a story higher. The purple color is caused by the manganese in the glass reacting with sunlight. Humorously, it was added to help keep the glass clear.

On a recent trip to Seattle, we had to stop and visit the Freemont Troll. While the troll has been hanging out under the Aurora Bridge since 1990, he also appeared in a few episodes of the final season of Disney's Once Upon A Time.

I love collecting vintage souvenir travel plates. They remind me of the wall of plates in my great-grandmother's dining room, as well as places I've lived or visited. One of my recent finds was this Seattle plate. I grew up in Washington and spent a considerable amount of time at the Pacific Science Center, so I had to add it to my collection. 

Let the Memories Begin

Disney has rolled out a new experience for fans of Walt Disney World. It's called the Let the Memories Begin Tour. This is a chance for everyone to experience the magic of Disney World without going to Florida.

By visiting one of the tour locations, guests can take virtual in-park photos that they can share. Photos are provided by Snapfish. Cast members will spread a little pixie dust at each stop, making this tour a magical experience. The tour kicks off in Chicago this weekend and travels around the country, ending in Puerto Rico in September. Here's a list of tour dates and cities.

A recent nationwide survey of U.S. and Canadian families found that vacation memories hold a special place in family history. Nine out of 10 parents said they planned vacations with the hope that they would result in a lasting family memory. In 2011, Disney Parks launched “Let the Memories Begin,” a year-long celebration of the family vacation memories created in Disney theme parks every day. I finally had the chance to visit the Chihuly Garden and Glass Museum in Seattle last weekend. The glass sculptures are incredibly stunning and absolutely gorgeous. This particular display is an Ikebana and Float Boat. I love how all of the colors reflect in the surface the boat is resting on.
