How can 20 years have passed since we first saw Anakin Skywalker become Darth Vader? To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the final film in the prequel trilogy, Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith is headed back to theaters. Here's the original trailer from 2005.

And here's the official synopsis from Lucasfilm

Set a few years after the onset of the Clone Wars, Revenge of the Sith is the final film in the prequel trilogy, highlighting the fall of the noble Jedi Order, which forces a handful of survivors, including Obi-Wan Kenobi and Jedi Master Yoda, into hiding. In a time when the Jedi Knights have become generals leading a massive clone army in a galaxy-wide battle against the Separatists, the sinister Sith unveil a thousand-year-old plot to rule the galaxy. And as the Republic crumbles and the evil Galactic Empire rises from the ashes, Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker is seduced by the dark side of the Force to become Emperor Palpatine’s new apprentice — Darth Vader.

The film stars Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, Hayden Christensen, Ian McDiarmid, Frank Oz as Yoda, Jimmy Smits, Peter Mayhew, Ahmed Best, Oliver Ford Davies, Temuera Morrison, Anthony Daniels, Silas Carson, and Kenny Baker, with Samuel L. Jackson as Mace Windu and Christopher Lee as Count Dooku.

William Shakespeare's Tragedy of the Sith's Revenge

I recently received a copy of William Shakespeare's Tragedy of the Sith's Revenge by Ian Doescher. I have seen these Star Wars as told in the style of Shakespeare books several times in recent months, but hadn't read any of them yet. I must admit, even though I have read many of Shakespeare's plays over the years, this book took me a little while to get into. However, once I figured out the flow, it was a fantastic read.

This book is the third in the Star Wars prequels. As such, it tells the tale of the fall of Anakin Skywalker to the Dark Side; a fall that the author has compared to the fall of Othello at the hands of Iago. The book uses Elizabethanan English, interspersed with technical jargon from the Star Wars Universe. While this can be a little jarring at first to the Shakespeare fan, it quickly seems fitting when describing lightsaber battles or strange creatures on distant planets.

I truly enjoyed this book. I was surprised by how lovely the rhyming quatrains between Anakin and Padme are. It makes Anakin's inevitable fall even more heart wrenching. And there is humor in the book as well. I especially enjoyed Yoda's speeches when written in Elizabethan English. Such as:

         "Yet some misgiving
In mine old green gorge doth rise --
           Fear most unresolv'd."

Somehow, it makes his odd speach patterns even funnier. The illustrations are also wonderful. And each act is marked by an image of Chewbacca in an Elizabethan hat, bearing a standard declaring the act number.

I would highly recommend this book to Star Wars and Shakespeare fans alike. I do believe I will have to find the rest of the series and read them all! If you would like to know more about this book or any of the other titles in the series, please visit the Quirk website. There you will find information about the books, educators' guides, and an interview with the author. William Shakespeare's Tragedy of the Sith's Revenge is available in bookstores today, September 8, 2015.

I was provided with a copy of this book by Quirk Books for the purpose of review. All opinions are my own.

Obi-Wan Kenobi Looks Fantastic

Star Wars
Lucasfilm

I am so looking forward to the latest Star Wars story. So much must have happened in the years between the Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. It will be interesting to see how it all ties together.

Here's the official synopsis from Lucasfilm:

The story begins 10 years after the dramatic events of “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith” where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat—the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.

The series stars Ewan McGregor, reprising his role as the iconic Jedi Master, and also marks the return of Hayden Christensen in the role of Darth Vader. Joining the cast are Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell and Benny Safdie.

Obi-Wan Kenobi arrives on DisneyPlus on May 25.

Revenge of the Sith Tsum Tsums

This week's Tsum Tsum Tuesday saw the release of the Revenge of the Sith collection. The four piece set includes Anakin Skywalker gone dark, Obi-Wan Kenobi, General Grievous, and a Clone Trooper. Anakin is definitely my favorite from this set. He looks so evil!

Star Wars Rebels Season 4

Lucasfilm
Well, it had to happen eventually. It looks like Star Wars Rebels will end next year at the end of Season 4. I've loved watching this show, which takes place between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. I'll be sad to see it go.

Obi-Wan Kenobi Is Coming To DisneyPlus

Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi
Lucasfilm

Are you ready for another series that fills in some of the gaps between movies in the Star Wars universe? The next story will be that of Obi-Wan Kenobi. The series takes place approximately 10 years after the events of Revenge of the Sith as Obi-Wan watches over young Luke Skywalker on Tatooine. Both Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen are returning, as Obi-Wan and Darth Vader respectively, alongside Star Wars newcomers Kumail Nanjiani and Sung Kang. Obi-Wan Kenobi arrives on DisneyPlus on May 25.
