Pixar's next project sounds quite unique. Onward is the story of two elf brothers who go on a "grand and glorious quest", or perhaps "just a really fast and strange errand." Either way, they're looking for old-fashioned magic in a modern world.

It looks fun, right? And it's got quite the cast: Tom Holland, Chris Pratt, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Octavia Spencer. Here's the official synopsis from Pixar:

Set in a suburban fantasy world, Disney and Pixar’s “Onward” introduces two teenage elf brothers who embark on an extraordinary quest to discover if there is still a little magic left out there. Pixar Animation Studios’ all-new original feature film is directed by Dan Scanlon and produced by Kori Rae—the team behind “Monsters University.”

The first full Onward trailer has arrived and it looks fantastic. The Lightfoot brothers have the chance to spend one more day with their dearly departed dad. Unfortunately, things don't quite go according to plan.

This Song From Onward Is Perfect

Onward is the tale of an epic quest undertaken by the Lightfoot brothers for the glorious purpose of spending one more unexpected day with their dad. At its heart, it's a story about family: the connection between parents and their children, and the dynamic between siblings. This new song from the movie, sung by Brandi Carlile, is about the love within those relationships, and how it's always there, even when you can't see it.

Onward arriveth in theaters this Friday, March 6.

Onward has a new trailer and it looks like it's much more than a silly adventure. The Lightfoot boys are going on a quest to see their dad once more. And their mom is following to protect them all.

These Onward Character Posters Are Totally Retro

Disney and Pixar recently released five new posters for Onward and they look like something straight out of the 80s. They're absolutely delightful!

This poster features brothers Ian and Barley Lightfoot, voiced by Tom Holland and Chris Pratt, who go on a quest to complete a spell to spend one last day with their father.

Their mom Laurel, voiced by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, is shown with her pet dragon, Blazey. She heads out after her son's to try to protect them.

They meet the Manticore Corey, voiced by Octavia Spencer, in a diner. She gives the boys advice about their quest but forgets to mention the curse, so she sets out with their mom to help them.

The final poster show the police officers the Lightfoots encounter along the way. Mel Rodriguez is the voice of  Officer Colt Bronco, Lena Waithe is Officer Specter, and Ali Wong is Officer Gore.

Onward arrives in theaters on March 6.

Go Behind-The-Scenes With Disney Insider

A new series is coming to Disney+ today. Disney Insider takes a behind the scenes look at all things Disney, from the Parks, to music, to tv shows and movies. Each episode will highlight three different stories from Disney's newest projects.

The first episode, "Aloha Idol, Singing StarGirl, Creating Onward", steps behind-the-scenes of American Idol with Katy Perry, Grace VanderWaal's acting debut on Stargirl, and the development process for Pixar's Onward. New episodes will be added weekly.

Funko has created six adorable POPVinyl figures from Onward. Ian Lightfoot holds his staff uncertainly. Barley Lightfoot looks ready for an epic quest. The Manticore has her war face on and is prepped for battle. Dad looks like his silly, costumed self. A second Barley, available exclusively from Amazon, is dressed in cosplay. Finally, the unicorn, which is a Hot Topic exclusive, has a regular version with a lavender horn and chase variant with a blue horn. All of these figures are available in stores now.

Here's Your First Look At Pixar's Soul

Yesterday, Pixar announced another new movie coming out next year. In addition to the previously  announced Onward, a movie called Soul will arrive in theaters n June 19, 2020. Here's what we know about the movie so far:

"Ever wonder where your passion, your dreams and your interests come from? What is it that makes you... YOU? One year from today, Pixar Animation Studios will take you on a journey from the streets of New York City to the cosmic realms to discover the answers to life’s most important questions."

It sound like another fascinating story. I can't wait to learn more about it.

Pixar's Soul Looks Fascinating

Pixar's second project for 2020 delves into the existential. While Onward is set in a world full of mythical magic, Soul looks at the beauty and complexity of the human soul.

Here's the official synopsis from Disney and Pixar:

Next summer, Joe Gardner will discover his brilliant, passionate self. According to director Pete Docter, the idea for the story is 23 years in the making. “It started with my son—he’s 23 now—but the instant he was born, he already had a personality,” says Docter. “Where did that come from? I thought your personality developed through your interaction with the world. And yet, it was pretty clear that we’re all born with a very unique, specific sense of who we are.” 

“Soul” introduces Joe Gardner, a middle-school band teacher whose true passion is playing jazz. “I think Joe is having that crisis that all artists have,” says co-director Kemp Powers. “He’s increasingly feeling like his lifelong dream of being a jazz musician is not going to pan out and he’s asking himself ‘Why am I here? What am I meant to be doing?’ Joe personifies those questions.” 

22 and Joe

In the film, just when Joe thinks his dream might be in reach, a single unexpected step sends him to a fantastical place where he’s is forced to think again about what it truly means to have soul. That’s where he meets and ultimately teams up with 22, a soul who doesn’t think life on Earth is all it’s cracked up to be. Jamie Foxx lends his voice to Joe, while Tina Fey voices 22. “The comedy comes naturally,” says producer Dana Murray. “But the subtle emotion that reveals the truth to the characters is really something special.” 

Soul arrives in theaters on June 19, 2020.
