Solo: A Star Wars Story On Blu-ray

Lucasfilm
Solo: A Star Wars Story arrives on Blu-ray today. The movie was unexpectedly fun. Although it took me awhile to get used to the young cast in place of familiar faces, I enjoyed the chance to see how my favorite smuggler and rogue got started on his life of crime. We learned how Han, Chewie, and Lando met, and we finally saw what happened on the mysterious Kessel Run. Solo: A Star Wars Story may not be as intense as other Star Wars films, but it is still a decent story that I'm sure I'll watch again and again.

There are a few different Blu-ray sets available, but all of them come with the following bonus features:

  • Solo: The Director & Cast Roundtable
  • Team Chewie - A behind the scenes look at what it take to bring Chewbacca to life
  • Kasdan on Kasdan - An interview with the father and son team that wrote the script
  • Remaking the Millennium Falcon - From swanky to stripped, track the ship's transformation
  • Escape from Corellia - A behind the scenes look at the high-octane chase
  • The Train Heist - Explore the thrills of a remote location and spectacular effects
  • Becoming a Droid: L3-37 - Meet the newest droid
  • Scoundrels, Droids, Creatures and Cards: Welcome to Fort Ypso - Tour the rough-and-tumble bar
  • Into the Maelstrom: The Kessel Run - See how this legendary moment unfolds
  • Deleted Scenes: Proxima's Den, Corellian Foot Chase, Han Solo: Imperial Cadet, The Battle of Mimban: Extended, Han vs Chewie: Extended, Snowball Fight!, Meet Dryden: Extended, Coaxium Double-Cross
  • The Millennium Falcon: From Page to Park - An Exclusive look at the history and development if the most famous hunk of junk in the galaxy and how it will appear in Disney parks

May the 4th Be With You!

Lucasfilm
It's that time of year again... May the 4th, or as it's known around the world, Star Wars Day. Today is a good day to kick back with a glass of blue milk and maybe a few Wookie cookies and watch a few of your favorite Star Wars films. A new movie, Solo: A Star Wars Story, is headed into theaters later this month. It's the story of how Han Solo met several of his friends, like Chewie and Lando Calrissian, and became the smuggler and rogue we all know and love.

Lucasfilm
In the film, the Millenium Falcon is owned by Lando, and it's in quite a different state than the one we're most familiar with. Check out this tour of the fabulous Falcon with Donald Glover, who plays Lando.

It looks pretty amazing, right? Solo: A Star Wars Story arrives in theaters on May 25. Until then...

Happy Star Wars Day!

May the Force be with you, always.

Wal-Mart Exclusive Star Wars POPVinyl

I think I got a little carried away with these Star Wars POPVinyl. They are all Wal-Mart exclusives, and they were too cool to pass up. I love the Ewok set, which includes Teebo, Chief Cherpa, and Logray. They're so adorably detailed. I thought the new Movie Moments scenes were awesome, and chose the Cantina Faceoff with Han Solo and Greedo. Han even has his foot up on the table, which is too hilarious. Finally, I picked up Princess Leia, looking very regal, from the Last Jedi. I may be addicted to Funko POPVinyl figures, but they are so much fun, who could ressist?

Mythbusters Star Wars Special

Discovery Channel
My family are huge fans of Mythbusters, which is now in it's 10th season on the Discovery Channel. In fact, it's one of Bean's favorite shows. She loves seeing them test new myths, especially when they are ones she is already fond of, such as the Pirates of the Caribbean myths. Last night, they decided to tackle a new film franchise: Star Wars.

The crazy gang of busters decided to take on three iconic Star Wars myths. First up was a myth from Episode IV: A New Hope. Jamie and Adam tested the feasibility of Luke and Leia being able to swing from one platform to another, while being chased by Stormtroopers, with only a grappling hook attached to a utility belt to save them.

The second myth was from Episode VI: The Return of the Jedi. Tori, Grant and Kari tested how successful the Ewok's log-swing mechanism would really be against an AT-ST. And the final myth was my favorite. This myth, from Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, tests whether Han Solo made the right choice when he slashed open the Tauntaun on Hoth and shoved Luke inside. Was this really the best way to save him? I love the Tauntaun that Adam created. It was hilarious!

This really was one of the best Mythbuster episodes to date. It mixed two of my favorite things: Star Wars and Mythbusting, to great effect. Mythbusters - Star Wars: Revenge of the Myth will replay on the Discovery Channel this coming Saturday 1/11 at 10 PM Eastern time. Be sure not to miss it!

For even more Mythbusters Star Wars fun, check out this video from the aftershow.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Teaser Trailer

Lucasfilm
Here's the newly released teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It looks amazing, with a bunch of new characters alongside familiar favorites. I especially like the voiceover from Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) saying " the Force is strong in my family" and the brief shot of Han Solo (Harrison Ford) saying, "Chewie, we're home."

Star Wars: The Force Awakens arrives in theaters on December 18.

It's Cap vs Red Skull in this Funko Movie Moment

Funko
Funko's latest POPVinyl Movie Moment collectible features a clash between Captain America and his archenemy Red Skull. I rather like these little vignettes from some of my favorite films. I have the Cantina scene from Star Wars with Han Solo and Greedo, but I'll definitely be on the lookout for this new set.

Star Wars Tsum Tsum

Are you ready for your favorite Star Wars characters to invade the world of Tsum Tsum? They arrive in our galaxy on Tuesday, February 16th at the Disney Store.  The collection includes: Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Chewbacca, R2-D2, C-3PO, Yoda, and Wicket for the Light Side, and Darth Vader, Boba Fett, Jabba the Hut, and a Stormtrooper for the Dark Side. They're so cute that it's difficult to choose a favorite, but I think I like Wicket the best. Which side will you choose?

The Perfect Medal for a Star Wars Fan

While browsing through the Star Wars Galactic Outpost in Disney Springs, I came across the perfect over-the-top gift for the Star Wars Fan. They have replica medals from Yavin IV. These are the same style of medals that Princess Leia presented to Luke Skywalker and Han Solo at the end of the first film, A New Hope. While I don't know what you'd do with such an item, it would make an awesome conversation piece. And all for the low price of $60. I know it's a bit much, but it could be fun.

Halloween Treats at Disney World

I was very excited to discover some new Halloween treats at Disney World recently. There were a few collectible popcorn buckets and drink cups that I was really hoping would be available. First up is a Nightmare Before Christmas popcorn bucket. It's Zero in his doghouse! And to make him even more special, Zero glows in the dark, and his nose lights up! I'm not sure if he's only available during Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party or not, but be on the lookout at popcorn carts around the Magic Kingdom.

The next cool container was inspired by the Evil Queen from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. It's a scary apple with a drippy skull. The cup is a translucent red, and the skull is white and glows in the dark. This lidded cup can be found across from Pecos Bill's in Adventureland. It comes filled with your choice of soft drink and costs $8. And you can ask for your soda without ice for an even better deal.

The final Treat is a regular Disney popcorn bucket with a lid. I saw it earlier in the day, but wasn't sure I wanted to carry it all day. It has the Lonesome Ghosts chasing Mickey, Donald, and Goofy. It's from one of my favorite Disney shorts, so I had to have it. Unfortunately, they close a lot of the popcorn carts early during Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. I tried three different carts before I finally found it at the cart next to Gaston's Tavern in Fantasyland. They had already cleaned up the popcorn and closed the register, but when I explained that I had run to the cart just to buy that specific bucket, a very sweet Cast Member gave me the empty bucket anyway. I was very greatful! As silly as it sounds, I adore those ridiculous popcorn buckets and actually have about a dozen. However, we plan to start using them during movie nights, so it's alright.

Although they aren't Halloween, I did want to mention that I found a few of the special Star Wars buckets at Hollywood Studios. They had both Vader's Helmet and the Han Solo in Carbonite from Star Wars Weekends. I found them at the popcorn cart across from Toy Story Midway Mania. You can get them filled with either regular popcorn or caramel popcorn. (All of the popcorn is now PopSecret brand, which is more consistent than the popcorn they used to use.)

Star Wars Hoth Tsum Tsum Collection

Disney/Lucasfilm
The most adorable Star Wars Tsum Tsum set was released yesterday: The Empire Strikes Back, scenes from Hoth. The collection includes six individual mini Tsums and a five piece set. The mini Tsums include: Princess Leia in Hoth gear, General Veers, K-3PO, an AT-AT driver, 2-1B, and a Snowtrooper.

Disney/Lucasfilm
My favorite part of this collection is the five piece set: a carrier shaped like a Taun Taun with four mini Tsums inside. The mini Tsum Tsums includes a Taun Taun, Wampa, Luke Skywalker in Hoth gear, and Han Solo in Hoth gear. To extract the minis, you have to open the Taun Taun's belly, which is totally appropriate if you consider the scene from The Empire Strikes Back. The set retails for $34.95, but was sold out online as of last night. I would love to add this to my collection.

Journey To Cloud City With Star Wars: Galaxy Of Adventure

Lucasfilm
Two more Star Wars: Galaxy of Adventure shorts have arrived to celebrate the 40th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back. Both of the shorts take place on Lando Calrissian's Cloud City of Bespin.

"Rendezvous at Bespin" is about Han Solo and how he ended up being Frozen in carbonite.

"Clash on Cloud City" is about Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader's battle from the end of the film.

The Toydarian Toymaker in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge

The Toydarian Toymaker is a fascinating little shop in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. Outside the shop, you'll find kid-sized speeders such as a speeder bike from Endor and a blue land speeder like the one Han Solo stole.

The shop, which is little more than a market stall, is absolutely filled with amazing toys made by Zabaka the Toydarian.

Stuffed figures with a handmade quality are piled on shelves and tables. Stormtroopers, Rey, Chewbacca, Yoda, Wicket, and a pile of Porgs are just a few of the soft toys for sale.

There are also many puzzles and games, most of them wooden. I really liked this Death Star maze which is delightfully complicated.

This Jedi Holocron puzzle cube is a very detailed, seven piece puzzle.

A music box, covered in Imperial symbols, plays the Imperial March and says "Together we can bring order to the galaxy" inside the lid.

And even more stuffed toys, including Finn, Ahsoka Tano, Princess Leia, Kylo Ren, Darth Vader, and Lando Calrissian. There are many more toys crammed into this tiny shop, with something to appeal to every Star Wars fan, young or old.

Star Wars: Forces of Destiny Specials Coming in October

Disney
A new trailer has been released for two Star Wars: Forces of Destiny specials. The half hour shows will air on October 1 and 29 on the Disney Channel. Afterward, they will also be available on Disney's YouTube. The specials will be made up of the previously released shorts featuring Rey, Jyn Erso, Sabine, Leia, Ahsoka Tano, and Padme Amidala, as well as 8 new ones. The new shorts will include additional characters, such as Han Solo, Hera Syndulla, Finn, Maz Kanata, and more.

Disney originally launched Forces of Destiny to show the powerful female characters of the Star Wars universe. However, as Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said, they are, "for anyone who has been inspired by Leia's heroism, Rey's courage, or Ahsoka's tenacity." And the shorts all fit in with the existing Star Wars storylines. Story Group member Carrie Beck said, "One of the opportunities here was to tell the stories in between the larger moments and imagine some of the ways our characters have crossed. It's all part of the larger swath of storytelling."

Star Wars Pins

There are several new Star Wars pins that have been created just for this years Star Wars Weekends at Disney World. Several of the individual pins feature key scenes from the Empire Strikes Back including a dimensional AT-AT being circled by a Snowspeeder. A massive jumbo pin in the shape of the number 30 is filled with characters from the movie. A boxed set of six characters and there vehicles has been created. There's also a set of Muppet Star Wars pins, a R2-MK (like a red R2-D2 but with Mickey ears), and a special limited edition pin. My favorite is the passholder limited edition pin which features Han Solo in carbonite. Finally, there's a limited release pin featuring the logo for the Star Wars Weekends.
