It Feels Like Christmas

Muppet Christmas Carol
Jim Henson Company

I love nearly every version of Dicken's A Christmas Carol. There's something delightful about discovering which twist each film will include. In the Muppet Christmas Carol, each of the ghosts is, quite appropriately, a Muppet. The Muppet version of the Ghost of Christmas Present is my absolute favorite of any film. He's just so jolly! Here, he's singing to Scrooge about what makes it feel like Christmas

The Muppet Christmas Carol is available on DisneyPlus.

Mickey’s Christmas Carol On Main Street

Mickey’s Christmas Carol

I love the decorated windows of the Emporium in the Magic Kingdom. There's always something fun to see. For Christmas, each window features a scene from Mickey’s Christmas Carol. In this window, Scrooge is quaking in his bed upon meeting Willie the Giant as the Ghost of Christmas Present.

Muppet Christmas Carol Funko POPs

Gonzo as Charles Dickens and Rizzo the Rat
All images: Funko

I know it's too early to be thinking about Christmas, but have you seen these adorable Funko POPVinyl from the Muppets Christmas Carol? The Muppet version is one of my favorite movies of Dickens' classic tale, so I have to add these to my collection. Above is Gonzo as Charles Dickens with Rizzo the Rat. A flocked version of the pair is available for pre-order from Amazon for $15.00.

Kermit as Bob Crachit and Robin as Tiny Tim

Next up is Kermit the Frog as Bob Cratchit and Robin as Tiny Tim.

Miss Piggy as Emily Crachit

Miss Piggy makes an appearance as Emily Cratchit,

Fozzie Bear as Fozziwig

while Fozzie Bear is the lovable owner of a rubber chicken factory, Mr Fozziwig.

Statler & Waldorf as the Marley Brothers

Statler and Waldorf are ready to heckle as the ghostly Marley Brothers.

And finally, Michael Caine's redeemed Ebeneezer Scrooge, wearing the scarf Beaker gave him.

All of the figures, except the Marley Brothers, sell for $11.99. The Marley Brothers are $19.99. The Muppet Christmas Carol Funko POPs will be released sometime in October, but are available for pre-order from several different retailers now.

Spirited

AppleTV+
Apple

I have always loved Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. It's such a wonderful story that shows anyone can change, if they truly want to. And there are so many different movie versions, each with their own unique take on the haunting of Ebeneezer Scrooge. This year, Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell are putting a whole new spin on the classic tale, and it's a musical.

Spirited arrives on AppleTV+ on November 18th.

Christmas Commercials

Aldi UK Christmas Ad
Aldi

It's that time of year again! Time for weird and wonderful Christmas commercials, mostly from the UK.

Aldi has another tale starring Kevin the Carrot. This time he's taking on Ebanana Scrooge in A Christmas Carol.

John Lewis has an interesting take on Christmas this year. Young Nathan discovers Skye has unexpectedly crashed landed on Earth, so of course he has to teach her about Christmas.

Barbour is celebrating Christmas with the ever adorable Paddington Bear.

Coca-Cola has a delightful commercial about the magic of chimneys.

I'm sure there will be more wonderful commercials before Christmas this year, but at least we're off to a good start.

Christmas Movies To Put You In The Holiday Spirit

Emmett Otter's Jugband Christmas
Jim Henson Company

I love Christmas movies! From animated Disney tales to every possible version of Dickens' A Christmas Carol, I can easily find a movie for every day of the month. Here are a few of my favorites.

Beauty and the Beast: Enchanted Christmas
Disney

And here are a few more I've discovered recently.

The Grinch
Illumination

The Grinch - This delightful retelling of the Grinch shows him as hating Christmas simply because he's lonely. In this version, he's not terribly mean, even to his dog Max, just a bit ornery when it comes to how the Whos down in Who-ville celebrate Christmas.

How To Train Your Dragon: Homecoming
DreamWorks

How to Train Your Dragon: Homecoming - Hiccup and Astrid are preparing to celebrate Snoggletog in New Berk when they discover that their kids don't understand dragons. At the same time, Toothless' children are trying to understand their father's obsession with Hiccup. All of the kids will discover something new this holiday.

The Mam Who Invented Christmas
Bleecker Street

The Man Who Invented Christmas - Have you ever wondered about the man behind A Christmas Carol? Charles Dickens changed our views of Christmas, making it an important and charitable holiday, with the incredible story of Ebenezer Scrooge. This movie tells the story of Scrooge's creation.

Christmas At Hollywood Studios

Hollywood Studios Christmas

The Christmas fun kicks off at Hollywood Studios today. From merry motorcades filled with characters in their holiday finery, to glittery retro decorations, to a flurry of festive treats it should be a magical season. Santa will be riding down Hollywood Boulevard in a red convertible filled with presents.

Hollywood Holiday Tower Hotel

The Frozen Sing-Along will finish each performance with a festive finale featuring Olaf and favorite holiday songs. The holiday projections on the Hollywood Tower Hotel return this year, transforming the tower into a Toy Story toy hotel, Mickey's Christmas Carol inspired village, snowy scene in Arendelle, and a Muppets gingerbread creation.

Holiday Treats at Hollywood Studios
Disney

Here are a few of the treats you can find throughout the park from November 6 - January 4:
  • Frozen Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate (PizzeRizzo, ABC Commissary, Backlot Express,  Rosie’s All-American Cafe) – Frozen salted caramel hot chocolate topped with marshmallows, green sugar, and a chocolate drizzle served with a souvenir Mickey Glow
  • Mickey’s Holiday Cookie (ABC Commissary, Rosie’s All-American Cafe) – Vanilla butter cookie enrobed with white chocolate and sugar snowflakes
  • Holiday Whoopie Pie (Trolley Car Cafe, Backlot Express) – Red velvet whoopie pie filled with a classic cream cheese filling
  • Olaf’s Snow Flurry (Rosie’s All-American Cafe) – Yellow cupcake with vanilla buttercream, snow flurry sugar, and Olaf Glow
Minnie’s Holiday Dine
Disney

For a special treat, Minnie Mouse will be hosting her Holiday Dine at Hollywood & Vine. And Santa Goofy will join Minnie and her pals for this delightful dinner party filled with holiday cheer.

And it was always said of Scrooge, that he knew how to keep Christmas well, if any man alive possessed the knowledge.  May that be truly said of us, and all of us!  And so, as Tiny Tim observed, God Bless Us, Every One!

Christmas Movies for Kids 4

Here are a few more of my favorite Christmas movies for kids.

Disney
Prep and Landing - When Prep and Landing Elves arrive in a child's home, their job is to get everything ready for the arrival of Santa. But when Wayne the elf is passed over for a promotion, he decides not to do his job, with disastrous results. However, after seeing how much his new partner Lanny and a little boy named Timmy love Christmas, he has a change of heart.

Disney
Prep and Landing: Naughty vs Nice - There are two types of Elves that visit homes on Christmas Eve: Prep and Landing Elves who visit nice kids, and the Coal Elf Brigade who visit naughty kids. This year, Wayne must work with his Coal Elf baby brother Noel to stop a naughty kid from ruining Christmas for kids everywhere.

Disney
Nightmare Before Christmas - I can never quite decide if this is a Halloween movie or a Christmas one. While walking in the woods near Halloweentown, Jack Skellington stumbles across doors that lead to other holidays. Intrigued, he decides to bring Christmas home with him. Then he thinks that the citizens of Halloweentown should be the ones to provide gifts and holiday cheer this Christmas. The results are disastrous, and it's up to Jack, his wise friend Sally, and Santa to save the day.

Rankin Bass
The Year Without a Santa Claus - This is another Christmas classic from Rankin Bass. When Santa wakes up with a cold in December, he decides he won't deliver gift this year. In an effort to change his mind and show him that he's truly needed, Mrs Claus sends two elves, Jingle and Jangle, to Southtown. They get into all sorts of trouble along the way, meeting the Miser Brothers and Mother Nature before finally convincing Santa to take his annual Christmas ride.

Rankin Bass
Nestor The Long-Eared Christmas Donkey - This is another Rankin Bass classic. Poor Nestor has ears that cause him to be picked on by the other donkeys. But his mother loves him no matter what, and even gives her life to save him from a storm. After talking to a cherubim named Tilly, he wanders through the desert until he meets Mary and Joseph, whom he helps on their way to Bethlehem. In the end, his long ears make him a hero, and an important part of the Christmas story.

Quote of the Week

Disney

I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year. I will live in the Past, the Present, and the Future. The Spirits of all Three shall strive within me. I will not shut out the lessons that they teach!

A Pentatonix Christmas

Pentatonix
I love the a capella group Pentatonix. Their arrangements are outstanding and their voices blend and harmonize beautifully. So its always exciting when they release a new album. Their latest, A Pentatonix Christmas, features songs to celebrate the season. The eleven tracks include:
  • Beloved carols - "O Come All Ye Faithful", "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen", "Coventry Carol"
  • Classic Christmas favorites - "White Christmas", "I'll Be Home For Christmas", "Up On the Housetop"
  • Two covers of newer songs - "Coldest Winter" and "Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays"
  • Two original songs - "The Christmas Sing-Along" and "Good To Be Bad"
  • And their take on the Leonard Cohen classic "Hallelujah." (While I don't consider "Hallelujah" to be a Christmas song, I do love the way it sounds.)
Here's the official video of "Hallelujah" by Pentatonix.
