Early Man: The Trailer

Aardman Animation
I absolutely adore the animated movies and tv shows from Aardman Studios. I've been a huge Wallace & Gromit and Shaun the Sheep fan for years. So imagine my delight when I discovered they have a new story in the works: Early Man.

Here's the official synopsis from Aardman Animation:

Set at the dawn of time, when prehistoric creatures roamed the earth, EARLY MAN tells the story of courageous caveman hero Dug (Eddie Redmayne) and his best friend Hognob as they unite his tribe against a mighty enemy Lord Nooth (Tom Hiddleston) and his Bronze Age City to save their home.

Early Man arrives in US theaters on February 16, 2018.

Since I first saw Olaf's Frozen Adventure a few weeks ago, I've had one of the songs running through my head. Olaf sings "That Time of Year" as he sets off to find holiday traditions to share with Anna and Elsa. It's so cute!

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms Teaser Trailer

Disney
Disney is taking on a classic Christmas tale for their next holiday film. The Nutcracker and the Four Realms follows Clara and her prince on a journey through a mysterious world.

Here's the official synopsis from Disney:

All Clara (Mackenzie Foy) wants is a key – a one-of-a-kind key that will unlock a box that holds a priceless gift from her late mother. A golden thread, presented to her at godfather Drosselmeyer’s (Morgan Freeman) annual holiday party, leads her to the coveted key—which promptly disappears into a strange and mysterious parallel world. It’s there that Clara encounters a soldier named Phillip (Jayden Fowora-Knight), a gang of mice and the regents who preside over three Realms: Land of Snowflakes, Land of Flowers and Land of Sweets. Clara and Phillip must brave the ominous Fourth Realm, home to the tyrant Mother Ginger (Helen Mirren), to retrieve Clara’s key and hopefully return harmony to the unstable world. Starring Keira Knightley as the Sugar Plum Fairy and featuring a special performance by Misty Copeland, Disney’s new holiday feature film “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” is directed by Lasse Hallström and inspired by E.T.A. Hoffmann’s classic tale. In theaters on Nov. 2, 2018.

O Christmas Tree

My tree is finally decorated, if a bit eclectically, with many of my favorite decorations. I haven't had a tree this big in ages, so it was fun putting on a random assortment of ornaments I've collected over the years. There are ones from my childhood and ones that represent places I've been or things I've done, and many that feature my favorite Disney characters. Opening up the ornament boxes and unwrapping each treasure is like taking a long walk down memory lane. I look forward to it every year.

Retro Christmas at Hollywood Studios

I love the retro decorations around Echo Lake in Hollywood Studios. The lightpoles each have a lighted retro panel and lots of tinsel.

In front of 50s Prime Time Cafe, you'll find these absolutely adorable reindeer.

As well as a wonderful tinsel wreath.

Even Gertie the Dinosaur is decked out for the holidays with a Santa hat and an ornament.

And the umbrellas over the outdoor dining have been transformed into Christmas trees.

Finally, this year, the tree is in the middle of the lake, surrounded by floating, glowing ornaments.

All together, it's awesomely retro Christmas!

Thor: Ragnarok Review

Marvel
I saw Thor: Ragnarok last week and I absolutely loved it! It's a rollicking adventure with a lot of comedy to lighten up the darker moments, and all about family, which makes for a fun film. Caution: Spoilers Ahead.

Marvel
The film starts with Thor travelling around the galaxy, trying to prevent the coming of Ragnarok, which will bring about the downfall of Asgard. He quickly defeats the giant Surtur and returns to Asgard. There he discovers an odd tableau.

Marvel
Odin is lounging around, watching a play featuring the overly dramatic death of Loki (who is humorously played by Matt Damon, opposite Luke Hemsworth's Thor and Sam Neill as Odin.) Thor quickly assesses the situation and forces Loki to drop his Odin disguise. They head to Earth in search of the Allfather and run into Doctor Strange, who helps them on their way.

Marvel
In Norway, Odin reveals that he has another child, Hela, his eldest, goddess of death. She has been imprisoned for centuries, but as Odin'  power fails, she will soon be released. When she appears, Thor and Loki attempt to stop her. Hela destroys Mjollnir, and Loki attempts to flee to Asgard, with disastrous results.

Marvel
Thor finds himself in a junkyard on an unfamiliar world, surrounded by people who want to eat him. He is captured by Valkyrie,  who presents him to the Grandmaster as a champion for his arena. Thor finds that Loki has also landed on Sakaar, but is looking out for his own interest. Thor then prepares to meet the Grandmaster's champion. (Love the cameo by Stan Lee as a crazy barber.) Of course, the champion is the Hulk, who has been the big green for two years, with no sign of Bruce Banner reappearing.

Thor now has to battle his way from Sakaar to Asgard, build an army, and save his world. You'll have to see how it ends for yourself, but the battles are pretty epic. I can't wait to watch it again!
